SWAA Participates in Three-Day MEAL Workshop for SIHA Network Members in Hargeisa*

The Somali Women’s Advocacy Association (SWAA) participated in a three-day Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) workshop held in Hargeisa, Somaliland. The event brought together members of the SIHA Network and was funded by the European Union and UN Women as part of the UN-Act: Solidarity in Action Project, which focuses on advocacy, coalition building, and transformative feminist action to end violence against women.

The workshop provided a platform for strengthening collaboration and enhancing collective advocacy efforts among women’s rights organizations and women lawyers across the Horn of Africa. Participants included representatives from Somalia, Somaliland, Ethiopia, and Djibouti.

Workshop Focus
The sessions emphasized the importance of building a strong and coordinated communication network among SIHA advocacy members to advance women’s rights across the region. Through networking and shared learning, the workshop encouraged deeper engagement and joint strategies to address common challenges.

Key Objectives of the Workshop
The three-day training aimed to enhance participants’ technical capacity in MEAL through the following priority areas:

  1. Understanding the importance of MEAL in improving organizational performance, project outputs, and overall impact.
  2. Exploring the Theory of Change (ToC) and its application in strengthening missions and project outcomes by clearly identifying who is involved, why actions are necessary, how change can be achieved, and the timeframe required for progress.
  3. Introducing the Most Significant Change (MSC) and Point of View (PV) methodologies and examining their role in capturing meaningful project impact stories.
  4. Learning ethical and effective approaches to developing MSC stories, including key steps in story creation, documentation, and selection. Impact on SWAA
    This workshop significantly enhanced SWAA’s capacity to implement stronger MEAL processes across its programs. It equipped the organization with knowledge for monitoring and assessing project results, particularly through the integration of MSC stories as part of post-project evaluations. These insights supported SWAA in producing more structured, evidence-based outcomes that reflect the experiences and progress of the communities it serves.
